A finished job is the easiest moment to ask for a review or a referral, and the one most service businesses skip. The client is happy, the work is fresh, and nobody has a form or a short link ready. A week later, asking feels awkward and the chance is gone.

This kit uses free skills and official connectors to close that gap. Your assistant builds a short feedback form, drafts review replies in your voice, designs the referral ask, and tracks which asks actually bring someone in. Nothing posts or goes out under your name until you say so.

What you need: Claude with the small-business plugin from Anthropic's Knowledge Work Plugins (Apache-2.0) installed, for step 2. Step 3 uses the Referrals skill from Corey Haines's Marketing Skills (MIT), which also works in ChatGPT, Claude, or any other assistant. Steps 1 and 4 use official hosted connectors: Tally MCP from Tally (a Tally account; free for every Tally plan) and Bitly MCP Server from Bitly (a Bitly account). Both also work in Claude and Cursor; Bitly also works in ChatGPT. No review sites connected yet? Step 2 also works from pasted or exported reviews.

The steps, estimated times, and directory pages are in the kit card above. Every time here is an estimate.

Before you start: set up once (estimated 15 minutes)

  1. Install the small-business plugin and connect the sources you already use for reviews: your inbox, your CRM or payments connector, and Google, Yelp or Facebook exports if you have them.
  2. Give Review Reputation your voice. It reads a shared voice profile before drafting public replies. Paste a few emails or past review responses you were happy with. A public reply in a guessed voice is worse than no reply.
  3. Connect Tally and Bitly with their own sign-in (OAuth). Each connector acts as you, with your permissions. If you want writes to ask first, set that in the connector's own settings.
  4. Set up the Referrals skill once: make a ChatGPT Project (or a Claude Project) called "Referrals" and paste the Referrals skill into its instructions, or install Marketing Skills where you already run skills.

Step 1: Send a short feedback form (estimated 10 minutes)

Right after a job is done, send a short form while the work is still fresh. Tally MCP is Tally's official connector. It builds, edits and publishes forms in your Tally workspace from a plain description, and it reads the responses people submit.

Ask:

Build a three-question feedback form for clients who just finished a project. Ask how the work went, whether they'd hire us again, and whether we can use their name in a short testimonial. Publish it and give me the share link.

Read every change before you approve it. Tally MCP can create, restyle and publish forms, and it can read every submission. Check the questions and the publish settings before anything goes live. Once responses start coming in, ask it to summarize or chart them so the happy clients are easy to spot for the next two steps.

Step 2: Answer every review (estimated 10 minutes)

Review Reputation watches what customers say in public and in private. It pulls Google, Yelp and Facebook reviews, plus disputes, tickets and complaint or praise emails, into three to five themes with the customer's own words. Default window is the last 90 days.

Ask:

What are people saying about us this quarter, and which reviews still need a reply?

It drafts a reply to every review in your voice: under 60 words, specific to what they wrote, and ready for you to approve. Negative replies name the problem and move the rest offline. Positive ones thank them for the actual thing they mentioned. Nothing posts publicly without you reading it first. You approve them one by one.

It also flags customers who have gone quiet past their own normal rhythm, and drafts a one-to-one win-back for the ones worth keeping. A customer who left a bad review and then stopped ordering is the clearest churn signal, and the one most worth a personal call. With no connectors, paste or upload a review export and the same report works.

Step 3: Ask for the referral (estimated 5 minutes)

Happy clients rarely refer someone unless you ask. Referrals designs the ask and the incentive so the share is one click and the reward makes sense for your work.

Ask:

Design a referral ask for clients who just rated us 5 stars. Keep it short, give them a personal link, and suggest a double-sided thank-you that fits a service business.

It walks the referral loop: the trigger moment (right after a finished job or a strong review), the share action, what the referred person sees, and the reward. Keep any reward tied to the referral itself, never to leaving a review. Prefer a personalized link over a code. Ask at the aha moment, not weeks later. Single-sided rewards are simpler; double-sided ones convert better when both sides get something real.

Use it for the ask copy and the program shape. The tracked link itself comes from step 4.

Step 4: Track which asks work (estimated 5 minutes)

A referral ask without tracking is a guess. Bitly MCP Server is Bitly's official connector. It shortens campaign links, makes QR codes, and reports clicks by country, city, device and referrer.

Ask:

Make a short link and a QR code for this week's referral ask, tagged for the November client batch. Then show me clicks by device and referrer for last month's ask.

Read every change before you approve it. Bitly MCP can create, edit and delete short links, custom back-halves and QR codes in your Bitly account. Check the destination and the back-half before anything is saved. Give each ask its own link so you can see which message, which client batch, or which channel actually brings someone in.

Common pitfalls

  • Waiting a week to ask. The form and the referral ask belong in the same week the job finished, while the work is still easy to talk about.
  • Posting a reply you skimmed. Review Reputation drafts. You approve. A public reply in the wrong tone is permanent.
  • One shared link for every ask. If every client gets the same Bitly URL, you can't tell which ask worked.
  • Approving writes without reading them. Tally can publish forms and Bitly can change links across your account. Read each change first.

Your reviews-to-referrals checklist

  • Install the small-business plugin and connect your review sources, or keep a pasted export ready
  • Give Review Reputation a few of your own emails or past replies for the voice profile
  • Connect Tally and Bitly, and set their write permissions
  • After each finished job, send the feedback form and check the submissions
  • Each week, approve the drafted review replies and flag quiet customers
  • Send a referral ask with its own tracked Bitly link, and read the click report before the next batch
